Toox sat down to write in his journal again, this time with more sadness than hope. The friends he’d made, revealed himself too, trusted and fought beside, had almost all left. He couldn’t help but think it was his fault, I mean, sure there were other things, but part of him couldn’t help but make the same connection he had with his own family. Isabelle was still there, but she fell sick, and he almost lost her too. Angus also, but Angus had spent the last week under some sort of mystic sleep. Fail had to leave unexpectedly and quickly, though he did leave his belongs with Toox, but perhaps that was just because he wanted to get away so quickly. Nari too. She suddenly was called back to her homeland to attend to matters there. It was the same pattern, he revealed what he was, and soon enough they were gone.
He met some new people right away. A man names Isar, who seemed to be a hunter of sorts. He seemed solid, dependable, a good cook, well versed with a bow, but Toox didn’t know him very well yet. The other one was named Azema and was a bit strange. At first, he was a simple merchant who had come with them aboard the ship they took. Shortly after getting to port, a tragic accident befell him. He died, and they took him to the local cleric, as they were headed that way anyway, to tend to Isabelle. They said he was dead and there was nothing they could do for him. But then something strange happened, a goddess appeared, and brought him back, proclaiming him to now be one of her paladins.
These new people, he didn’t know them yet, but he was not going to make the same mistake twice. Revealing himself so soon, and having everyone leave… again. At least they didn’t try to kill him this time. Then there was Isabelle, apparently she was the child of some sort of doomsday prophecy. According to the prophecy she was going to grow up, turn evil, open a portal to hell and let the King of Demons and his armies through, and turn the world to ash. The priest offered to kill her. What a fucked up world where people hate you just for what you are, how you were born, that you had no choice in. They had to stick together now, more than ever. He wouldn’t let anyone hurt her ever again, even if he had to take the hurt for her. So for now his true nature would remain a secret, and he would be a little slower to trust now. It would break her heart if they were abandoned right away again. They still had each other, but Isabelle seemed to need more than that.
It felt bad. It was happening again, everyone left again, everyone afraid of him again. He didn’t know how to stop it from happening, but for her sake, he had to try.
