[Masqtober] Day Seven: Auspex

Judith had only recently mastered Auspex. At least, mastered as much as her generation would allow. Psychic Projection was her new shiny, and she was dying to try it, despite the fact that she had been warned it could be dangerous. This in mind, she waited for a time when she felt it was something necessary.

Months later, the opportunity arose. One of her coterie had gone missing, and the rest of them were at a loss for what to do next. While they had gathered some clues, and had an idea of where he could be, they weren’t sure how to get past defenses, or even if their coterie mate was there.

That’s when Judith volunteered to try. She laid down, the rest of her coterie surrounding her. She started to focus, then couldn’t help herself – she giggled a little, then apologized, promising her coterie she was serious. Honestly, she just couldn’t help it – with her lying flat and everyone surrounding her, it just reminded her of a game of Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board.

Closing her eyes, she concentrated, and then found herself stepping away from her body. She floated for a moment in awe, looking down at her body with the others surrounding her, notating a slim, silver cord connecting her to her body. Keeping that tether in mind, she looked around once more, then flew rapidly toward her target location. Once there, she moved through the building, checking each room to try and find her coterie mate, eventually finding him. She made sure to mentally calculate how to get through the building to him, and then flew outside to evaluate the defenses.

The trip back did not go as planned. She got turned around, and lost, at one point encountering something that could see her. Angry, it attacked her. She tried to defend herself, but what good was she against a werewolf, especially like this? She tried to flee, but the werewolf attacked what it could before she was able to get away – her silver cord. It had severed.

How was she to get back now? She was lost, and couldn’t find her way home. Not now; maybe never.
