Jacqueline’s Dismissal

After speaking with Marcus, Thomas hung up and fetched the nearest ghoul.

“Bring me Jacqueline.” the servant nodded, and quickly went to fetch her. Jacqueline herself was seeing to the business she was typically assigned – overseeing the accounts. When she was told Thomas wanted to see her, she sighed and closed out of the computer and got up, following the other ghoul to Thomas’ location. She didn’t like Penhallow, but she worked for him out of necessity, having not wanted to burden Petra with her ghouldom. Still, sometimes she regretted that decision. Fortunately for her, she didn’t succumb to the same sickness other ghouls did, that of the Blood Bond.

“You wished to see me sir?” for his part, Penhallow wasn’t particularly fond of Jacqueline either, but she was damn fine at keeping the books in order, so he was midly loathe to let her go.

“There has been a change in our…arrangement.”

“Whatever do  you mean, sir?”

“You’ve been sold, as it were.” he said with a casual air that infuriated her. He continued “You are to pack your things and take the next flight out to Montana.”

“What’s in Montana?”

“Your new Master, a man by the name of Marcus Astor, in a city known as Willow Creek.” he waved her off dismissively. Jacqueline knew that gesture and so left the room Penhallow was in, and headed to the room he granted her. She didn’t have much in the way of personal possessions – just a few small treasures from her past that she carefully packed into a suitcase among some clothes. Anything else she needed, she would figure out a way to procure once she got to where she was going.

Once packed, one of the other ghouls drove her to the airport, and made sure that she picked up the ticket that had been purchased for her. She would arrive during the day, and was to wait at a hotel until evening, when she was to contact Marcus, whose information she’d been given before she left Penhallow’s.

I wonder what kind of Master awaits me there?
