Date Night

Jett put his hands on the back of the chair Lucas was sitting in. Lucas was intent on a sketch and didn’t notice him, until Jett leaned down to nip his earlobe.

“Don’t do that.” Lucas said. But he was smiling, and Jett knew it.

“C’mon.” Jett said. “Let’s you and I go out. We haven’t done anything just you and I in a while.”

“Well…” Lucas said, pretending to be debating it. He tilted his head back and looked up. “I’d like that.” It had been a while since they’d done anything together. Jett had been keeping busy lately, and when he was free, he tried to spend time with Lucas and Brandon both. Since he’d been fired, he’d had more free time. “What did you have in mind?”

Jett grinned. “I thought a little wine, skip the dine, catch a movie and then later something special I have planned.”

“Color me curious.” Lucas said, closing his sketchbook and getting up from his chair. He got up to put the book in his room and grab his coat while Jett did likewise, then they headed out to one of the cars and headed into the city.

For the wine part, they went hunting, and had fun with it. Laughing and walking close together, they went into the cinema and promptly had issues choosing a movie. Jett finally laughed and let Lucas pick whatever he wanted to see and got tickets. The movie was well enjoyed by both, and after they got in the car Lucas turned to look at Jett.

“What’s next?”

“It’s a surprise.” Jett said with a smile, and drove around a little, mostly to confuse Lucas, before pulling up outside the building that housed his recording studio.

“What’re we doing here?”

“You’ll see.” Jett got out of the car and went around to the other side, letting Lucas out and grabbed him by the arm, pulling him into the building and up to the studio. He sat Lucas down at the mix board. Lucas gave him a confused look.

“Just wait.” he paused, then continued, “I hope you like it.” he did something on the board, and the room filled with music. Lucas started to say something, but Jett motioned for him to be quiet. He obeyed, listening to the strains of music. After a moment, Jett’s vocals mixed with the music, making a beautiful piece.

“That was good.” Lucas said. “I liked it.”

“Did you hear the lyrics?”

Lucas thought for a moment, then shook his head. “I don’t think  I caught them all.”

“Listen again.” Jett said, and played the track again.

Lucas listened more carefully at the time, and when it was over, he looked at Jett. “Is this a ballad?”

“Yes.” he replied. “I wrote it for you.” he said, almost shyly.

Lucas leaned over and gave Jett a tender kiss. “I love it, he said. “Thank you.”

“To be fair,” he said, after he returned the kiss. “I made a track for Brandon too.”

“That’s fine. It doesn’t take away from how special this is. It means a lot.”

“So what does Brandon’s track sound like?”

“Hopefully something good. I attempted to do it sort of rap style, since Brandon likes that.”

“That’s…going to be interesting, coming from you.”

“Hey. What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Nothing. It’s that you aren’t really a rap guy.”

“I know…but I wanted to make the effort.”

Lucas smiled. “No one would guess it, but you’re a sweetie.”

“Am not.”

“Are too.” Lucas said, and gave him another kiss.

They both relaxed for a bit in the studio, talking over the song and others Jett had tried to write. After a while, the topic of their other lover, Brandon, came up again.

“So what do you think about him taking on a new ghoul?” Jett asked.

“I don’t know.” Lucas said. “Jacqueline is fine. I don’t know about Mandy.”

“Jacqueline isn’t likely to change – she’s immune to the blood bond.”

“Really?”

Jett nodded. “She was bound to Penhallow for something like a hundred years, and it pissed him off to no end that she was able to refute him.”

“Mandy?”

“Probably not. Being immune is really rare. Mandy’s had her second drink, too.”

“I don’t know that I like that.” Lucas said, after a long pause. “I have nothing wrong with Mandy personally, I really don’t…but I’ve heard about what you went through with the blood bond.”

“Brandon isn’t Marcus.” Jett said, giving Lucas’ shoulder a squeeze. “Mandy may feel strongly towards him, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be like love. She could just end up being fiercely loyal.”

“I don’t…I don’t think I’d like seeing her fawning all over him.”

Jett hugged Lucas. “Even if she does, Brandon still loves us. So try not to worry, ok? It’s going to be hard to tell how she’ll turn out because she’s new. There’s time to figure it out.”

“Okay.” Lucas said. He paused before speaking again. “Should we bring our concerns up to Brandon?”

“If you’re really worried about it, you probably should. I’m not all that worried, but I understand.”

“Yeah…think he’s available tonight?”

“Since when does he not have time for us?” Jett said, smiling. “Just let me download this track to give him, if that’s ok with you?”

Lucas nodded, and patiently waited for Jett. Once he was finished, they put their coats back on and headed for the car, pointing it in the direction of Brandon’s place.
