Determined To Help

Trish sighed as she left Brandon’s. things were frayed very badly, and she wasn’t sure what, if anything, could fix it. She needed to see Lucas, the sooner the better. She pressed a button on the steering wheel, and spoke aloud.

“Call Chance.” she waited as the bluetooth connection to her phone went through and dialed Chance. After a couple of rings, he picked up.

“Hello?”

“Hey baby.” she replied. “Will you be okay with the baby for a while longer?”

“Yea, of course. What’s up?”

“Things at Brandon’s are more complicated than I thought they would be. I want to see Lucas sooner rather than later.”

“all right. Be careful driving, ok?”

“I will.”

“Love you.”

“Love you too.” she said, disconnecting. It was dark on the road to Vince’s – very few streetlights, if any were on the road, so she had to rely on the headlights for most of the way. She made it safely to Vince’s though, and parked. After turning the car off, she sat in silence for a bit, trying to figure out how to proceed. Ultimately, she decided that she would have to wing it, much like she did with Brandon. With this in mind, she got out and headed up to the house and knocked. Greg let her in and greeted her with a hug.

“Hey honey. What brings you by?”

“I need to see Lucas.” she said.

“Eric teach you what you need to know?” she nodded. “Been to see Brandon?”

“Yes, and things are badly frayed. I don’t know what I can do to help.”

“At least you’re trying. Lucas is in the bedroom he shares with Jett. Down the hallway, to the right.”

“Thanks Grandpa.” she said, and followed his directions – down the hallway, pausing in front of the door on the right and then knocked softly. After a moment, Jett answered.

“Can I please see Lucas?”

“I don’t think he’s up for company.”

“Please? It’s important – I might be able to help.”

Jett sighed. “Do you want me to stay?”

“No…it’s better if I can talk to him at home. Less distraction.”

“Alright. Good luck.” Jett said, opening the door for her and then closing it once she had stepped inside. As for himself, he wandered into the living room and looked at Greg. “Do you know what’s going on?”

Greg nodded. “Trish is starting to come into her own. She’s learned how to see the threads that bind people, and may be able to help repair it. She won’t know unless she tries, and she’s already tried Brandon.”

“Ah.” was all Jett could think of to say, as he took a seat on the couch. He was sincerely hoping that there was something she could do. He didn’t know if he could handle being torn between them – it was something that could end up splitting all three of them apart, depending on how things went.

Lucas was sitting on the bad, back against the wall, one leg straight out in front of him, one bent, an arm draped over the knee. The expression on his face was…well, apathetic was the only word that came to mind.

“Lucas?” she asked timidly. She had already decided to not tell him she had been to see Brandon, figuring it might be better to avoid that trap altogether. Lucas looked over, giving a halfhearted wave. She bit her lower lip, and tried to use her abilities to see – and what she saw was heartbreaking. The cord to Jett was strong, but the cord to Brandon was badly frayed – just the same as when she had seen it attached to Brandon. Moreover, he was experiencing vast heartache.

“Oh, Lucas, I’m sorry.” she said, getting on the bed to hug him. “I should have had you get his opinion first.”

Lucas shook his head. “It’s not your fault. I was going to accept it sooner or later anyway. Things would have probably turned out the same. It wasn’t meant to be, I guess.” He sounds so empty and without hope, like he’s already given up. She swallowed tears and sighed.

“I will fix this.” she said quietly. “I promise I’ll do everything I can. There has to be a way.”

“I appreciate you trying Trish. I really do. If you can, great. But I’m not so sure.”

She hugged him again, and then stood up. “Hopefully you feel better soon. Don’t keep to yourself, ok?” he nodded, and she left the room, closing the door quietly and headed back to the living room, where her grandfather and Jett were.

“How’s he doing?” Jett asked.

“Things don’t look good.” she said honestly.

“What can be done?”

Trish thought for a bit. “I think I have an idea.” she said slowly. “I don’t want to implement it without getting some feedback to those closest to the two, and Grandpa.” she said.

“You mean Vince and myself, don’t you?”

Trish nodded. “You can tell me how they might take to this information. We might need some help though.”

“From who?”

Trish mulled it over. “Morpheus, for certain. Also, Clio, if I am recalling my muses properly.” she stated. “Oh! And Eros. We might need him too.”

Greg raised an eyebrow. “Just what do you have in mind?”

“I don’t want to repeat myself, so I’ll go over the idea once we manage to dig up Vince. Where is he, anyway?”

“I’ll take a look in the basement.” Jett said. “Barring that, we’ll call.” he said, getting up and heading downstairs.

Greg looked over at Trish. “Whatever you have in mind, I sure hope it works.”

“Me too.”
