Jasper Finds Himself

Jasper looked at the door for a moment after Trish left. He didn’t like lying to her, but it was a necessity. He had remembered more than he let on but he was cautious about sharing it all with her until he found out more himself.

He sat down at the computer and typed in a lengthy and complex password. The computer and its monitors sprang to life. Sure, he was a software engineer in his day job, but apparently he had another one too. He was a hacker. Skills were still a little…. iffy. But he was remembering more and more of the broad strokes. He started scouring through social media, IRC channels, something called “the Dark Net”… his hands almost moved on their own as his mind repaired itself.

He started looking into his past activities as best he could. Apparently, part of his skill set was covering his own tracks, so this proved a bit difficult, but every time he found a thread he pulled at it.

John had been a naughty boy. But it seemed he was… what was the term, a hacktivist. Doing what he did for the greater good. He started learning more about his former family, his friends, his associates. One contact in particular he seemed close with, went by the name “DinoBro”. He’d have to contact him later. He got up from the computer and started about cleaning the house, giving everything a thorough cleaning. He felt this needed to be done. It was almost a compulsion. Perhaps some perfectionist aspect of his host.

Next, dinner. He raided the fridge for one of the meals Trish had prepared, and heated one up. It was delicious of course, he was really beginning to like her cooking. Next he got dressed and went out to the garage, found a bike, and started his way across town, he wanted to see the sights and familiarize himself with his new hometown.
