“I told you I’d take care of you, so that’s what I’m trying to do.” Liam admitted, as he fed Kayla his blood, hoping it would work. Being here and seeing her like this didn’t make him as angry as he was worried about being – but it did make him sad. Tamiel had made a mess of things, and he was trying not to look into the deep pool of thought where the darkness whispered that she would never wake up; that she would just die. That’s what Tamiel would prefer, he felt – to fall into despair over this. For now, he focused on feeding her from the thermos he’d brought with him.
When the blood was gone, gave her some water to help wash away traces. After that, he sat down with a sigh. He didn’t know what to say to her, or how to help, so instead, he sat and thought. Eventually, he got up and hunted up some paper and a pen, and began to write.
“Dear Kayla,” he began, then paused, thinking a moment before continuing. “I don’t know what else to say other than I’m sorry. For everything. You didn’t deserve for this to happen to you. I promise, when you wake up, I will have a heart-to-heart with you, and discuss whatever you want. Please pull through. I don’t want to see you suffer. You’re a good friend – I don’t want to lose you.”
Carefully, he folded the paper and wrote her name on it, and propped it against one of the vases. There was so much more he wanted to say, but he couldn’t risk it, in case someone else read the note. He reached out, taking her hand, and ran his thumb across the back of it. He hadn’t lied – he didn’t want to lose her. After a moment, he closed his eyes and sighed.
“You can pull through. I know you – you’re too stubborn and strong to give up.” he finally said. “Please, Kayla.” He stood, leaned over, and kissed her forehead. He wanted badly to give her more blood to heal more quickly, but he knew it had to be gradual. More could be done for her once she was released. That all depended on if she woke up, however.
Unable to stay much longer, he gave her hand a squeeze. “I’ll visit as often as I can manage. You can do this – for your sake, for your friends and family…and maybe for me too.” With that, he left, thanking the nurses on his way out for letting him in after visiting hours.
