Liam knew that to a lot of vampires, his concern for Kayla might be seen as a weakness, but fortunately he surrounded himself with those that valued their humanity and saw ghouls as more than tools. Kayla hadn’t been a part of his life long, but she was still important to him – not only because of what she did for him during the day, but he valued her as a person as well. If he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have bothered to try to save her brother. Even though he’d failed at that, he had tried. He knew she was in pain from it, and it bothered him that he’d made that situation worse than what it had to be.
He was also far from over being upset at Tamiel for what she had done to Kayla. He couldn’t bring himself to hurt Tavi over it in any capacity, but he did fear that if, or more likely, when Tamiel reemerged, he would end up hurting her for what she had done. Although she deserved it, no one else in the system did. Running his fingers through his hair, he tried not to fret about what had happened as he sat in the car with Adam and Tavi on the way back to his place. He was admittedly trying not to let on how he wasn’t doing great. Would Kayla recover? He didn’t know – she might with some blood, but he couldn’t be there to give her any.
Liam closed his eyes. Everything had turned into such a shitshow recently. One thing after another kept piling up on them, and he was starting to worry there might not be a way out of it all. Would all of unlife be like this? He didn’t know, and he wasn’t sure he could ask anyone. Normally, he might talk to Bethany about something like this, but he couldn’t let her know about recent events, since Adam had requested they not speak of certain things to anyone else. Even though he considered Adam a friend, he didn’t feel he should bother him with this. He was the Prince, after all, and had a lot on his plate as well. Besides, his free time should be spent with Tavi, he felt.
That left Vince. He wasn’t sure how that would go, but it was something to keep in mind. It would have to wait, however, since Vince was staying at the hospital. Which Liam needed to thank him for, somehow or another. So what now? What came next?
Whispers at the back of his mind grew louder as his thoughts idled. They had been there since just before he had frenzied, and now they were impatient; hungry. He knew this voice – it was his Beast, and it wanted to feed. It’s true he was hungry. He’d been feeding more since he got injured in the fire, and so far had been lucky to not kill anyone. He needed to feed again tonight – but now he wasn’t sure if he could do it without killing someone, with his Beast thirsting, and still angry at Tamiel.
He inhaled deeply, and let it out slowly, working at pushing that voice down, and then opened his eyes. One thing at a time. When he got home, he would feed, and then he and Tavi could try to discuss how to handle other things, so they could both take their minds off the night’s events.
