Nick had been having a time of it recently. There had been both good and bad, and he hadn’t fully had time to process any of it. Though it seemed like longer, it had only been just early last week that Petra had been cured, and only two days ago that the entire matter had been wrapped up with Kauffman’s death. There were unanswered questions, but he didn’t know where to turn with any of that – all he could think to do was hand Billy the information on the contact Kauffman was trying to disappear to. Moreover, the name of the person they’d collected from the thug just last night. If Joseph had been kidnapped and questioned, there was nothing saying that any of them couldn’t be next.
That and some other things, such as the quest for the fae queen were at the back burner of his mind. More to the forefront was the matter with the Giovanni woman that had gotten severely flubbed. Brandon had been so angry, and they’d nearly lost their lives over it, if it hadn’t been for Endrik’s intervention. He’d only learned early that evening that Brandon’s ex-wife had wanted Nick himself for an evening, and Brandon had declined. Why was that? It would have been a fitting punishment, and something he’d have complied with. Perhaps it was just not wanting to give in to his ex-wife that made him consider it, he couldn’t be sure.
Rather consistently, it seemed he upset or at times outright infuriated Brandon, and it bothered him. He really should talk to Charles, but he was also reluctant to burden the other man when he had so much on his plate between taking care of Ryan and dealing with Kauffman’s former slaves. There were times when it seemed like Min was the only bright spot, and he was happy that she’d said she wanted to date him – he only hoped it worked out. He knew Ryan and Alyssa liked her well enough, but he wasn’t entirely sure how she felt about things. Time would tell, he supposed.
Currently, however, he felt stuck. He had Val teasing him, Petra seemed interested in him, which he hadn’t considered a possibility and wasn’t sure she wasn’t picking on him as well. There were others there as well, but they all seemed willing enough to help pick on him rather than defend him, so he just tried to let everything slide off his back, as it were, to be dealt with later. He wanted to try and focus on Min’s little brother having a nice time, as well as his sister. Being part of a group was fine, but that was his focus – especially now that he knew this circus and carnival wasn’t normal.
There had been the Museum of Oddities and the Big Top that were the biggest clues that this places wasn’t normal, and Val had confirmed it. But she’d disappeared before questions could really be asked of her, and Petra had walked off as well. Liv had taken Cho off, leaving just he, Billy, Sayuri and Min. There had been a little talk of what they’d seen at the circus so far, but his mind was preoccupied on other things, like trying to not think about everything else on his mind, and what to do next.
He was hoping the uncomfortable subjects were done for the evening, but he doubted it.
