Alaric had been having an associate quietly checking in on matters through his victim’s thoughts and dreams. It was subtle, a presence she wouldn’t notice, being unable to counter it. But he knew of what was going on, and how happy she was with her domitor and other…associates. Knowing this only stoked the flames of his anger, but he seethed quietly. Instead, he made his second step towards revenge with a few phone calls. Before packing up and leaving New York for a flight here, a train there, to another destination, staying on the move while working under pseudonyms and within shell companies so as not to be traced.
Slowly, things would pile up. There would be frozen assets here, some IRS investigations there, and asset seizures sprinkled in for good measure. Certainly, he could work his way around it all. But it would take time, and while he would deal with one, more would crop up. It would be more helpful, of course, if he could do this to all of Brandon’s assets at once, but that was highly unlikely. Still, the idea was that, for every asset, investigation, or seizure Brandon would untangle, three more would crop up in its place. If he was lucky, he might even be able to wreak a little havoc in Decadonia.
With this cheerful thought in mind, he settled into his new haven with his associate, watching and waiting.
