Nick v6

Right now, Nick was desperately wishing they had stayed out camping until the next day. He couldn’t remember what time it was. Any time he’d been on his phone, it was for some call or emergency for something or another. Hell, he’d barely been home, it had been such a damn busy night.

It had started with him picking up his sister from Cindy’s and taking her to dinner. He didn’t lecture her or anything — just let her know he was uncomfortable with the kind of party she’d been at, and left it at that, then took her home. Next, he’d caught wind of the hotel fire where Danny had been staying, then got called into work because everyone was on high alert. He’d done some investigating, saw some horrific sights, and learned about the death of Danny’s mom before reporting back to the Montecito. After that, he’d spent an hour on the phone with his sponsor to get talked out of going to the bar, went home and worked on unpacking the truck, then had to turn around and go back to work. Then, while Danny was calling the lead detective after explaining things, Billy had gotten a call from a very unhappy Brandon about everything.

The thing of it was, with everything on his plate right now, he wasn’t even stressed about the work he was supposed to be doing for Brandon. That was a non-issue, at least for now. The kind of thing he’d rather be doing than dealing with all the drama that had been going on. Even the drama wouldn’t have been so bad, if it hadn’t been for Danny. Sure, Joseph had done a major goof with the whole LARP ordeal, but it worked out and nothing had come of it. On the other hand, Danny had outed him, made another already uncomfortable situation worse by leaking it to his sister, and now this whole cartel mess she’d stupidly gotten herself involved in.

He couldn’t help but feel relieved at her agreeing to go into protective custody. While he felt bad for her for losing her mom and best friend in the same night, the thought of less drama was very appealing, and hopefully would keep the rest of them — he, Billy, Joseph and Sayuri — safe. If he could wash his hands of Danny and the hellstorm she’d caused? The worst of it would likely be his sister. At the thought of his sister he sighed, realizing he’d promised to take her car shopping at some point. One of their parents would likely have to be with them too, and figuring out when one of them had a day off would be tricky. Oh well…it bought him time.

The worst of things right now though, was that Danny had only just been led away by Detective Mitchell to go into protective custody, and none of them knew what to expect yet. Here’s hoping he thought.
