Heading Home

Lucas grinned at Jett as they headed home from Brandon’s.

“What?”

“I told you it was a good idea to put you in a suit. You made all of us happy – we all like how you look. You clean up good.”

“Next time we put you in a suit too.”

“So you’re admitting there’ll be a next time?” Jett took one hand off the wheel and used it to muss Lucas’ hair.

“Yeah, I guess so.” he couldn’t help but smile at Lucas’ even bigger smile. He needed to spend more time with him, he thought. Beyond helping him with vampireness, what little he knew without Vince’s help, he hadn’t spent a lot of time with him since he’d been working long hours at the garage and fine tuning his car to be race ready. There was another coming up, and he was itching to race again.

“What’s on your mind?” Lucas said after a minute, noting Jett’s look.

“Hmm? Oh…just thinking about the upcoming race, that’s all.” Lucas bit his lower lip.

“You racing like that worries me.”

“It shouldn’t. I’ll be fine.”

“But what if something happens?”

“It won’t. I’ll be fine. Promise.” Jett looked over and smiled at Lucas before turning his attention back to the road. “You know, if I were a different sort of man, I just might have to get back at you and Jacqueline for this.” he said, changing the subject.

“How? All we did was put you in a suit. I’ll say it again – you look good, dammit.” Jett grinned at Lucas’ swearing. It didn’t happen often, and it amused him when it did. they drove in silence for a little while. Lucas propped his elbow on the door and his chin in his hand, and stared out the window. After a while of this, Jett spoke.

“What’s on your mind?”

“Food.” he said quietly. “I’m hungry.”

“We’ll see if there’s anything there when we get home, or we can go hunting.” Lucas nodded, almost absently as he was lost in thought. He was conflicted about his new diet. Part of him craved it, and part of him was repulsed by it, though he wouldn’t say so to anyone – or at least not Jett. He figured he’d be fine once he got used to it. After some more silence, Jett pulled into the driveway of their place, and parked the car. Lucas unbuckled ad followed Jett into the house, his mind still on his next meal.
