The letter arrives in a 6″ x 9″ manila envelope. Inside is what passes for a modern day parchment envelope, sealed with wax and pressed with a generic seal. Breaking the seal and opening the envelope reveals a letter within, from Lucas to Brandon, written in a simple but elegant calligraphic script.
Brandon,
I am writing to you out of respect. I would like, if you please, to get to know you better. I will understand if you don’t wish this, but I felt it prudent to ask. My reason is simple: I do not wish to be at odds with any of Jett’s other lovers. I fell that by being on friendly terms at the very least, this will make things less awkward on everyone all around. I don’t know how you feel about the situation, but I’ve just explained my stance on the matter.
Thank you for taking the time to listen to me, and apologies for this letter being so short – I had hoped for a longer one, but concise and to the point turned out to be best, I think (hope).
Sincerely,
Lucas Blackman
