Trish: A Day In The Life

Trish pored over the course catalog for the local university, marking classes she would be interested in taking her first semester there, as well as those that were required for the degree she would be pursuing. She was trying to ignore the prices and lab fees on some of the classes since Vince was paying for her education, but at the same time she knew he’d want her to pursue what she was interested in. So engrossed was she, that she didn’t hear Chance wheeling his way towards her. He cleared his throat, and she jumped slightly, with a little squeak of surprise.

“Sorry.”

“It’s okay. What time is it?”

He glanced at his phone and read off the time to her. “Oh, it’s time to start helping you.” she smiled and got up, retrieving the books she’d picked up, to help him with his reading. She sat on the couch and patted the seat next to her. He shifted from his chair to the sofa, and sat close to her, trying hard to make sense of the jumble of letters. When he became clearly frustrated, she stopped, turned his head towards her and gave him a kiss.

“You’re doing well. I know it’s hard, but you really are making progress.”

He nodded, still a little upset with himself that he got frustrates so quickly. She glanced at the time and sighed. “I’ve got to go to the club and audition some musicians before tonight. Will you be okay on your own?”

Chance scowled slightly at the question before remembering she was asking out of kindness, not pity. “Yeah, I should be fine. If I need to go out I’ll call someone.”

“Okay.” She got ready to leave as he made his way back to the chair, and once he was settled she gave him another kiss, and headed out the door.

Jim was at Nightborne, cleaning the bar and surrounding areas when she arrived.

“Anyone show yet?”

“There’s a few people playing pool in the back room. I’ll let them know  you’re here.”

Trish nodded and found a comfortable place to sit, near the bar incase she needed a drink, and set down her notebook. The first band of the day had the odd moniker of Squirrel Puppies. Creative name, but there was something off about them. She thanked them and dismissed them, before moving on to the next, and the next, and so on. By the time she’d exhausted the supply that came through, she had booked four bands – two for Saturday, and two for Sunday, but she still needed something for that night.

Out of options, she picked up her phone and called Jett, leaving him a message when he didn’t pick up. “Hey Jett, this is Trish. Do you think you could play tonight? I’ve got bands booked for the next two days, but they couldn’t do tonight. You’d probably have to do a double set – not that the patrons will mind; they like you. Anyway, call or text as soon as you can, so I know if I have to get a DJ for the night.”

She thanked Jim for the drinks he’d provided while she listened to them perform. Now I know what the judges on those talent shows feels like. She didn’t head home yet though – she first stopped in to the youth center to see if they needed her help. staying long enough to help cook up some meals for the next couple of nights.

Jett called her back late in the afternoon to let her know he’d play, and didn’t mind doing a double, so long as he could get house musicians in time.

By this point she was tired, and decided to pick up some food on the way home for her and Chance; she she definitely didn’t feel like cooking. Heading inside, she found him asleep on the couch. Not wanting to bother him, she attempted to be quiet and head into the kitchen with the food, but he woke up.

“Everything go okay tonight?” he asked.

“Yea…a lot of bands came to try out but not many made it, and no one was available tonight. Probably because of a big frat party over on campus tonight, I’ll bet. So I called Jett and he said he could do it.”

She pulled some plates down and doled out the food. They both are in relative silence for a while. “Hey, you’re tired. Go get ready for bed, I’ll take care of this.” she smiled and didn’t argue, heading for the downstairs bedroom. Just yesterday she’d moved some things from the upstairs bedroom to the downstairs master so that she’d have some things there. She was too tired even to get into pajamas, so she just stripped down and climbed into bed.

After cleanup was complete, Chance locked up and turned off lights before heading to the bedroom. She was there, not yet asleep.

“I thought you’d be asleep by now.”

“No…I can’t seem to get my mind to calm down.”

He climbed into bed and lay next to her, putting an arm around her and kissed her neck. “I could wear you out.” he offered.

She thought for a minute and nodded. “As long as I don’t have to move much.”

“Just lay on your back.”

She did as she was told, and her efforts were rewarded with oral pleasure. He kept it up until she came. “Now I think I can sleep. Thank you.”

“Anytime.” he grinned a bit, then went back to holding her as she fell asleep.
